This book caught us by surprise. It's actually pretty fun!! It tells the story of a hen, who wakes up one morning to find a gigantic egg in her nest and sets off in search of the rightful owner.
This book plays on an always popular premise for young kids -- when YOU as the audience clearly understand something that the main character doesn't (ie: kittens don't come from eggs, duh!) Kids love the feeling of omniscience!
And, as we were reading the Amazon customer comments, we noticed one comment that made a really good point: "There are so many extensions for this book - which animals lay eggs, animal sounds, names of baby animals, and there is even an adoption theme (she loves the big chick, even though it didn't come from her egg). It is a very simple book, but a great conversation starter with little ones." :)
